Because next week is remembrance day, we made some poppies to design the gym for our remembrance day assembly. Every student made a quarter of a poppy, and when put together, we get a rather unique looking complete poppy.





For writing, this week, we worked on our "Friends Wanted" posters. Students wrote about what they look for a in a friend such as personalities and hobbies. They also wrote about why they themselves are a good friend as well as a bonus they would like their friend to have. We planned, drafted, revised, and finished a final copy to share with the other grade 3 class.




To continue with our theme of India for social studies. We made Menhdi art together. Students traced, cut out, and designed their hand.

We have also started talking about quality of life, and students have started making a quality of life poster so look out for that next week!


For math, we talked about patterns, specifically using t-tables. If you look at your student's black folder (home work folder), there will be a sheet of t-table worksheet for them to practice with.

Reminders for next week

1. Please remind your student to read and have their reading sheet signed (they get a punch in their punch card if they have reached their 100 minutes quota per week)

2. Please make sure that your student has a jacket, boots, and snow pants as winter is coming and the weather is very unpredictable

3. Remembrance day is next week, please bring in donations for a poppy if possible

 Math - This week, we continued with our multiplication unit. Students have been working on their 6, 7, and 8 facts as well as count bys. We have also made a large multiplication table with all the products as well as ways to demonstrate how they achieved the answer. I have sent some students home with homework today as they did not finish in class. It should take at most 10 minutes to finish. Writing - We started our persuasive writing unit. Students learned about the structure of persuasive writing (what? why? why? why? what again?), how to use persuasive words, as well as including 3 reasons or examples in each of their whys.  Hello Parents, This week in... Math - We continued our measurements unit, we learned about word problems, conversion between imperial units, and made shapes to learn about perimeter.  Writing - For this week, we wrote in our duck diaries. Gym - This week, we played football type games such as Eraser Football and Bean Bag Football. Furthermore, we also learned how to throw a football, we focused on having a really nice spiral. Also, we learned a new tag game; Insect Tag. Science - We started our animal life cycles unit. We  got a unit booklet and learned about different classifications of animals such as mammals, insects, fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.  This week, we got ducklings, and they hatched!   Math - this week we kept working on our count bys. The grade 3s also got their first math quiz from me.  Writing - this week's writing was inspired by the book "The Best Part of Me". Students chose their favourite body part and wrote about it. They have typed their good version up and I will have pictures of the bulletin next week! Science - we started on the rocks and minerals unit. Students learned about the layers of Earth as well as properties of rocks and minerals. Next week we will be doing the hardness test as well as creating and observing soil. Art - students made their own bookmarks to keep. They designed it with a book or reading related phrase.
