Hello Parents,

Yes I know I haven't posted for a while with pictures but here it all is!

Math - We have been working on graphing bar graphs and line plots. They also had a quiz on it this week. I have sent home some practice sheets they can do over the break. If you do any of the sheets, please do not throw them away as I have to pay them their punches.

Writing - We have been working on event stories. They have been typing their good copies this week and the ones who finished early have been having fun with winter themed mad libs.

Reading - For reading, last week we worked on the bossy r and this week we worked on the long a sounds. We have also been doing some reading comprehension as a class about Greek mythology. We have only done one passage about Zeus; when we come back we will continue this.

Social Studies - We have been learning about Peru's culture, geography, daily life, and how it is different than ours. When we come back, we will do a bit more work with Peru especially about the quality of life.

Winter Solstice - We watched an elder talk about why the winter solstice is important to the indigenous peoples in Canada. All of us wrote a reflection in our visual journals about what we are grateful for in this past year. Afterwards, we did a beautiful landscape painting of birch trees in the winter using water colour resist techniques.

Reminders

1. Have a great winter break and happy holidays.

2. Please do some work on the practice sheets over the break to keep their skills sharp.

3. Please read the leveled reading books, if you have finished them please bring them back in January so I can switch them out for harder ones.

4. Our first day back from the break is January 9th or see the school calendar if a reminder is needed.

 Math - This week, we continued with our multiplication unit. Students have been working on their 6, 7, and 8 facts as well as count bys. We have also made a large multiplication table with all the products as well as ways to demonstrate how they achieved the answer. I have sent some students home with homework today as they did not finish in class. It should take at most 10 minutes to finish. Writing - We started our persuasive writing unit. Students learned about the structure of persuasive writing (what? why? why? why? what again?), how to use persuasive words, as well as including 3 reasons or examples in each of their whys. The topic students wrote about was whether if I should get a classroom pet and what pet should I get? Reading- For reading, we have been working on visualization. May 30 - June 2

 Hello Parents, This week in... Math - We continued our measurements unit, we learned about word problems, conversion between imperial units, and made shapes to learn about perimeter.  Writing - For this week, we wrote in our duck diaries. Gym - This week, we played football type games such as Eraser Football and Bean Bag Football. Furthermore, we also learned how to throw a football, we focused on having a really nice spiral. Also, we learned a new tag game; Insect Tag. Science - We started our animal life cycles unit. We  got a unit booklet and learned about different classifications of animals such as mammals, insects, fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.  This week, we got ducklings, and they hatched! Everyone got a chance to hold and pet the ducklings.   Math - this week we kept working on our count bys. The grade 3s also got their first math quiz from me.  Writing - this week's writing was inspired by the book "The Best Part of Me". Students chose their favourite body part and wrote about it. They have typed their good version up and I will have pictures of the bulletin next week! Science - we started on the rocks and minerals unit. Students learned about the layers of Earth as well as properties of rocks and minerals. Next week we will be doing the hardness test as well as creating and observing soil. Art - students made their own bookmarks to keep. They designed it with a book or reading related phrase. Reminders 1. Library is on Tuesday, if your student bring books home, please remind them to bring them back on Tuesday if they want to exchange a book. 2.
